Falls Ridge Traverse from Tuolumne Meadows 10/3

A few folks have documented scrambling up or along some portions of scenic Falls Ridge between Cathedral Creek and the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne, but taking part in scrambling every highpoint was a spectacular way to spend a day. Eric Su might report more details later on his peaksforfreaks blog. We plan to come back to this general area of Yosemite for more fun with falls and creeks flowing strong, but low water made our route back easy. When not not completely absorbed in the moment, we eyed many future options from our many stellar vantage points...

Were those Google images in time sequence? From image to image didn't always make sense?

I've been all over the canyon rims between Glen Aulin to beyond Mattie over a few trips. And have twice led group backpacks from Daff Dome area crosscountry down Cathedral Creek and then over the saddle at mid Falls Ridge that ends up down in the California Falls area. From there continuing down to Waterwheel is more difficult than the topo seems to show. Overall from SR120 one of the more difficult route finding puzzles to keep things class 2 or less because of all the short cliff bands and brush. Trouble with the brush at those elevations is it tends to fill all the granite joint cracks and sometimes is all manzanita. During most years crossing the Tuolumne River is not an option till late summer if at all unless one swims across one of the deep flows in Glen Aulin.

Just now seeing your comments. Yes, a couple of images were not ordered exactly by time sequence.

Yes, the area is brushy and has interesting route finding problems. I do want to get back sometime this year or next, but would not want to be scrambling around here during a heatwave unless planning on sticking near water and swimming a lot.
