A few of us had a great time going up Thor Peak yesterday, 4/18/2015. We went up via Mirror Lake, choosing a route that the three of us were sure we followed 10+ years ago, but somehow ended up on the wrong side of the mountain at first. Lots of neat clouds moved in, some a bit ominous. Started to haze over a tad and snow flurries began falling for a little while. We barely had to touch snow the entire time on the ascent. Looked like more consistent snow started shortly after Mirror Lake on some parts of the trail. We could see the switchbacks on Whitney, which looked like they had a decent amount of snow. Per the pattern lately, many S facing slopes had very little snow, like the slopes we used to ascend Thor and the slopes above Upper Boy Scout Lake used to ascend Russel and Carillon.
View over towards Arc Pass as we ascended Thor's slopes above Mirror Lake
Nearing the summit plateau and Whitney peaks (no pun intended) up from behind
Thor Peak summit just ahead
My wife on the summit of Thor
Summit Pano from Thor. Pretty low on snow everywhere
Starting to descend to the East Coulouir
Looking back towards Thor. Some amazing looking clouds were floating around. Lots of snow flurries at times
Pretty afternoon lighting looking East
Another great day in the Sierra nears an end
I might have pics of other spots in the area if anyone was interested, just let me know.
