Nestled between Friday the 13th and “The Ides of March” we find π day. What a wonderful day to climb π-ramid Peak!
I made the trip via the Rocky Creek trail. This is about a 4100 foot, 4.1 mile hike.
Obligatory picture of the creek…
The snow cover wasn’t steady until about the halfway point of the climb.
Soon after hitting solid snow I caught sight of the peak.
I met an interesting group on the climb. Patrick Smith from Pollock Pines had brought his 5 children (and one friend, bet he is an only) on a hike to the summit.
I find the 16 year old carrying his sister on his back to be quite an inspiration.
I eventually made the summit. This is a picture of the peak we bagged last Sunday. Ralston is about 700 feet shorter than Pyramid.
You better take an ice auger up if you want to fish one of these lakes.
This is a shot to the north capturing Agassiz and Price.
Here is the Lyons creek drainage.
Why did I climb this peak? I wanted to help with the drought situation. I carried up some water to help fill Aloha.
You can thank me the next time you see flows over Horsetail falls.
It wasn’t too long before Julio and his friends joined me at the summit.
I’ll be up here again shortly. Aloha looks like it needs more water!
Thanks,
-Russ
This climb is dedicated to a world famous 15 year old diarist. She was tragically and brutally murdered by a democratically elected fascist regime 70 years ago this week (exact date unknown).
