Onion Valley, Bench Lake, Snow Crown (almost)

I slept at Onion Valley to acclimatize, but got there at 4:15am. I got a late start and spent the day looking for the old trail, found the map I lost last weekend, went for Snow Crown but ran out of time.

It looks like it was beautiful out there - not much snow still. It makes me think that the Sierra might be a better destination this weekend than the desert, but the weather changes so fast this time of year.

Weather was great at OV. I was hot inside the Rubi and had to unzip my sleeping bag. It was 35 when I got there. I hiked in a tank top and arm warmers. Didn't need a jacket. Great hiking weather!

Out of North Lake it was a little cooler. I wore a light capilene shirt til about 11K, then put on the precip jacket. At 13K it was really cold (a little windy), and I put on a fleece shirt and fleece jacket under the precip jacket. Brrrrrr!
