Raymond Peak (Ogul Listed)

Last Saturday we climbed up another Ogul Peak. We drove up to near the Blue Lakes and turned shortly before getting to the lakes to drive the dirt road to the trailhead.

We hit the wilderness boundary a few more feet up the trail.

It wasn’t long until we reached the 8000 feet marker.

After a few miles we were in sight of the summit.

Once you get to the lake the hike becomes an uphill, off trail steep climb up a thinly forested slope.
The trees disappear and the slope becomes rocky as you approach the summit block.

My advice on how to approach the summit block…think like a NASCAR driver…Turn left, turn left. Keep working your way left around the summit block.
6 Climb Around Left.JPG
We met our new mountaineering friends Vic and Sue on the summit of Raymond. They traveled to the south side of the peak to observe the summit of Reynolds.

I brought along a beautiful statuesque blond to model the ammo box found on the summit. :D

Russ,
Near report. Raymond is a pretty neat peak. I've had fun with the summit rocks in the past (ie not looking too hard for an easy route while going up, but doing the easy walk off) first with my younger brother back in the 70's and then later with my wife in the early 90's.

You've done Reynolds? (not to hijack the post)That is a pretty intimidating looking peak. Is it worse than class 3? It looks like a class 4 peak when viewed from a distance.

Kristine, this is too funny! We had planned on doing those peaks over the weekend. I went up the weekend before and fished French. I noticed a lot of unusual activity (many campers and He-Man 4 WD). I checked the web when I got home and sure enough...the Sierra Trek!!!! August 7 - 10.

We decided to instead bag Raymond.

Did you see a lot of 4 X 4 yahoos?

(clarification: Four wheel drive people are very "salt of the earth" people. If you ever find yourself in trouble they will be the first to drop what they are doing to help you out. They know the code of the mountains: "up here, we all have to look out for each other")
That being said, we can still pick on those gear heads. :D :moon:

Anyway, Kristine, did you see all of those VROOM VROOMS?

GB, don't worry about hijacking the post. We still need to bag Reynolds and can use all the advise we can get. I have seen Bob Burd's report and it doesn't look too hard...but then again, Burd can fly! :D

There were a Huge group of off roaders at meadow Lake as I started from the 4X4 road that goes towards Baltimore Lake and beyers lakes, they were not a problem did not seem to be really up yet at 7:30 and when heading to white rock lake for mt lola they were leaving with their trailers and all pulled over to let me pass. So no problem.

As for Reynolds we went up from Blue lakes area following Pete thousands directions and had no problems class 3 with some exposure but nothing to scary. Fun peak.
