Last Tuesday we did a nice day hike up to Mount Rose 10,776..we started at the new trailhead and hiked along a new section of trail that eventually meets up with the old trail. When we reached the open section on the backside of the mountain we were wind blasted with the worst wind I have ever experienced while hiking!!!! We almost turned back. It was a little exciting to experience what Mother Nature can do. I had to sit down in the middle of the trail to put my jacket and gloves on. On the way back down, my hat blew off my head and I went running after it almost did not get it back. Mort who was ahead of me hiking down looked like a drunk person would swaying back and forth, I had to stop a few times to actually brace myself because I felt like I was going to lifted up. It was both a bit crazy and exciting to hike in those conditions. I did take few pictures if anyone is interested. The old wooden Mt. Rose summit sign is no longer there & I did not find a register

LOL!! This is why I braid my hair! And the bandana around my neck (or my headband) is tied to the strap of my hat. Looks like a fun trip!

Rose is a fun trip! Good story and photos
When I lived in Reno the North Tahoe Parks and Recreation district on the CA side of the lake had an award they called the 31,000 foot club. It was a tee shirt given those who climbed Mounts Rose, Tallac (sp) and Freel Peak, the three higest peaks in the Tahoe Basin. I have no idea if they still have this program, but if they do it would be a fun thing to do. And, yes I do have one of the shirts.

SN....That wind was so crazy and wild HA!! I know you are smart to braid your hair..I had mine in a pony, but the wind was so strong it whipped it right out of the rubber bands
Trailblazer...You are right, sometimes you do have to deal with it, I rather hike in it, then be at camp having to deal with it, sleeping & cooking in the wind is no fun.
Rondonnee....I have not heard of the 31,000 foot club...what year was that when you got your tee shirt?
Thank you all very much...even with that wind it was a nice hike
