Solitude

By solitude the soul escapes from doing or suffering magic; it escapes from dullness, from boredom, by being aware. Nothing is boring if you are aware of it. It may be irritating, but it is not boring. If it is pleasant the pleasure will not fail so long as you are aware of it. Being aware is the hardest work the soul can do, I think.

Excellent contribution! Brings me back to my youth when I'd show the Alan Watts narrated film, Buddhism, Man and Nature. Part of the official NPS evening program (well, until I got shipped out to the backcountry. Quelle horreur! They showed me!!). An excellent contemplative film that I thought helped see nature more clearly. We were all hippies then and, a few, still... .

Thanks,

g.

What's the source of that quote, George? I know she has a short story called, "Solitude." Is it an excerpt from that?
