Dinkey Lakes Loop

Thinking of doing a moderate backpack/camp for two nights on the loop and surrounding area at the end of August/beginning of September. My question is: out of the main trail lakes: Mystery, Swede, South, and First Dinkey, which ones are best to camp and/or fish at? What about near by lakes?

All the lakes you list have fish, and also Island, Fingerbowl and Rock Lakes. Second Dinkey is fishless. Since they are all very close together it's easy to base camp and visit the others. We typically camp at Second Dinkey or Island, not the lower lakes, as there is less greenery to harbor mosquitoes.

skeeters should be down by your timeframe. There was a nice camp at the N end of fingerbowl. Island makes the most sense for a base, and then you can work all the lakes around you and hit south and mystery on the way out. offtrail, but downhill and you can't help but hit the trail..

Just revisited their after 20+ years, Island Lake is still the prettiest of the
bunch and also supposed to be one of the better lakes for fishing though it did
not produce any big fish for the fishermen in our group. Fingerbowl Lake was
better, and has good campsite located on its northern side between a stand of
trees which offers a lot of peace & solitude.
