Does anyone have a guess as to how much snow will be in the west (higher) chute of South Fork Pass (Palisades) in mid-July? I'm just wondering if I should take an axe/rope/crampons.

If you have photos of recent conditions there, please post!

I have no hard data but since you asked for guesses I can almost guarantee you will not need the gear. This year is even drier than last year.

Although the talus leading up to that pass is impressive, it does plunk you into a great area, so if you're game, many of us will look forward to a TR. Based on the rate of snow melt during my late May, early June trip this year, you'll have no problems. And, even if there is snow, it'll be pretty well warmed by the time you get there (given the dearth of campsites beyond Brainerd/Finger Lakes).

Thanks, folks! Guess I'll go in 8-9lbs lighter (means more food) :D
