Hi there! Relative newbie to backpacking here. Got started a couple of years ago on a weekend trip to Snow Mountain Wilderness with some friends who were prepping for a thru-hike of the Te Araroa. I've got little ones at home (2 and 6) so have only managed a couple trips per year since. I've taken my daughter on a couple of one-nighters to Pt Reyes and Castle Rock SP, and enjoyed a couple of 3-night trips to Desolation Wilderness with other newbie backpacker friends of mine, and did Half Dome as a really long day hike. Looking forward to expanding my experience with longer trips and pushing into the shoulder seasons.

This site has been a great resource. I think it was a search for mosquito data that originally brought me here, and just that section of the site alone is a gold mine.

Future trips on the wishlist:
Somthing in Trinity Alps Wilderness (maybe 4 Lakes loop),
Rae Lakes Loop,
Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley via Clouds Rest,
Ohlone Wilderness Trail,
and a low-mileage wilderness 2-nighter with my daughter (maybe Woods Lake - Winnemucca - Round Top up near Carson Pass)

Welcome to HST! Nice wishlist, must live in the Bay Area.
Skyline-to-the-Sea, Henry Coe and Ventana Wilderness are great too, though not sure how much it was affected by the fire. Henry Coe, Skyline-to-the-Sea, Ohlone should all be done after we have had some decent rain fall, the last two because of the waterfalls, Berry Creek Falls in Big Basin is hands down the prettiest in the Bay Area, and HC and Ohlone are very dry hikes so in the Spring time is when you will have water, lower temps, and pretty wildflowers.

I'm a native Minnesotan, but now call New Hampshire home where I am an avid hiker/bushwhacker in the White Mountains. I first tasted the Sierra in 2009, hiking the classic South Lake/North Lake circuit, climbing Mt Spencer along the way. I was hooked, and aimed to return on an annual basis. In 2010 I joined a Sierra Club outing for a cross country adventure out of Mineral King (https://flic.kr/s/aHskEJdBLg), and in 2012 joined the crowds in exploring the exquisite Yosemite. I then discovered Wyoming's Wind River Range and became distracted, deliriously infatuated, with excursions in 2012 (https://flic.kr/s/aHsjDzYBer), 2013 (https://flic.kr/s/aHsjJeqDPs) and 2014 (https://flic.kr/s/aHsk3PUnUe).

I recently returned from an 8 day circuit in and out of Onion Valley, combining trail and xc adventure to gain entry into the elusive and tantalizing Kaweah Basin. I'm in the process of sorting through photos and it is my intent to share a trip report. In brief, our route went counter-clockwise to visit these highlights: Kearsarge Pass > Longley Pass > Thunder Ridge Pass > Talus Pass > Colby Pass > Kaweah Basin > Wrights Basin > Mt Barnard > Forester Pass > Onion Valley.

Hi, I'm Devin and I'm new to the site & backpacking in general. I had a great time on my first backpacking trip in the Sierras last year going from June Lake to Tuolumne Meadows, and that inspired me to plan another trip this past summer in Desolation Wilderness. Camping has been a favorite activity to share with my friends, and getting into backpacking has really been a great way to take that interest to the next level. Being in the Bay Area, I've also enjoyed many 1-2 night trips to Point Reyes & the Tahoe area. This forum has really helped with planning my Desolation Wilderness trip, and I love gathering ideas for future excursions. I think I found it just by doing google searches for Desolation Wilderness information. I'm planning ahead to hike either the JMT or TYT with my girlfriend in the summer of 2018, and looking to plan some trips in summer 2017 to get more experience (looking into a couple 2-3 night trips around Leavitt Meadows or Florence Lake).
