Hi Everyone,

My name is Matt, I'm just getting into backpacking and found this forum. Looks like a great place to get some trail/gear advice. We just took a trip up Buckeye pass in Humbodt Wilderness with our dog, very beautiful and quiet. Dog friendly trail tips welcome, she loves hiking, and we hate to leave her home. Looking forward to reading about, and sharing the mountain trails.

Hello All,

Name is Bard, and I live in the foothills of the Sierra's in Reno. Have been hiking and mountain biking in the Lake Tahoe area for a decade or so. Wanting to explore more of what these mountains have to offer. I have done a few weekend backpack trips of short distance (~10 miles), and quickly realized I had camping gear and not backpacking gear. Working on some better gear there right now. My partner in crime is my German Shorthair Pointer mix, who has more energy than I ever will. Looking to find some new places to go and people to meet, and figure out this overcomplicated permit process!

Hi, I'm Jack from San Diego North County. A climbing friend of mine told me about this site and that it has a wealth of information. I will do the Rae Lakes Loop starting 8-23-15 and am looking for any advice on campsites and good fishing locations on this route.
Last year I completed my final section of the JMT and am looking forward to taking my time this year and relaxing, fishing and maybe doing a side trip from the Rae Lakes area. Doing the JMT I was always concerned with how many miles I could do a day like I had an appointment at the next camp I had find..and although I loved the experience I want to change that way of thinking and relax. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.....

My name is Isabelle, I live in Alameda, in front of San Francisco - I am 42.
My passion is backcountry skiing around the Carson Pass but we also like to hike in the summer with my partner- now that our kids are old enough we want to go hiking next week, with our dog -

I was born in France, my english is not perfect even if I leaved here for more than 10 years

I wanted to go to little lake valley but the permit situation got me nervous so now I am thinking Saddlebag Lake and the 20 lakes basin - if you have inputs on other nice routes with easy terrain ( 2 kids 8 and 9 and a giant dog ) I would like your ideas.

Welcome to HST! Drive through your neck of the woods occasionally, when heading out to the coast, and want to avoid the traffic on 92.

Thanks for inviting me to introduce myself. I've been an avid backpacker since I discovered the sport at 16. I've been honing my skills ever since. I originally joined the Boy Scouts just to go camping. I had no interest in anything else-although tying knots proved helpful. After my short stint with the BSA I joined in on church group backpacks-my first week-longer-never looking back. Actually I look back all the time usually for bears or Cougars. I particularly enjoy backpacking with just one partner-but that's usually out of necessity not necessarily choice. I've also found solo backpacking to be not only a thrill but a joy. The downside being some safety concerns and sharing that joy we all get from venturing into wilderness. I've been a zero impact backpacker from the beginning. I really appreciate highsierratopix. What a great job you all do. I hope I can help out as time goes by. Thanks to everyone who contributes-especially the moderators and founders. Great resource!
