High Sierra Topix

Last year when I was at Lake Italy about mid-August, the southwest shore was still pretty snowed in which caused a change of plan from going up towards Jumble Lake and the Pass. Mike, I just got back from a trip that included a side visit to Lake Italy (I had crossed Gabbot Pass and did a few peaks around there). There were several people camped down at the southwestern part of Italy, and from what I could see, it didn't look hard at all to get there from Italy Pass.

There was still a lot of snow though! I had to abandon my original plan of going out of Cox Col. The snow also frustrated my first attempt to climb Mt. Gabb.

thanks for the info. I will be going in over Pine Creek Pass on Sunday and on over Lake Italy Pass. Hope to spend some time fishing down in the lower Hilgard fork meadows. Had to pass through there quickly last year and thought it sure looked good.

Last year we weren’t sure about that snow crossing either. We were at Brown Bear Lake and decided to climb the ridge between Brown Bear Lake and Jumble Lake. http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/4670 ... 6560tLlilw

It was a lot shorter and we didn’t have to go all the way down to Italy Lake.

With a lot of luck, this will be a picture looking south across Lake Italy, towards the Bear Lakes basin area.

Eric, thanks. I *did* try to follow those instructions, which was the only way I got as far as I did! The only thing I did differently was use Cntrl-C to copy and Cntrl-V to paste. I just tried doing it exactly as your demo describes and now I get a red x only, or nothing at all.

Your description mentions problems with Community Webshots -- perhaps that is the problem? If so, do you have any suggestions for a different website that I could use to upload photos?

Your photo shows up fine for me. The only thing I see wrong is that you used the "[img]" tag one too many times.

There are many other sites out there. You might post this question on the photos forum to see what others are using (and what they prefer).
