Marie Lake isthmus crossing

Post by SierraMaclure »

Anyone know if you can cross from the JMT thru the isthmus in the middle of Marie Lake?

It was many years ago, but I crossed there (same direction you ask about) in September of a low snow year and it was doable. Seem to recall some rock hopping, but with this looking like another drought year it should be ok. Came the other way (east to west) about 15 years ago earlier in the season and opted to walk around Marie on its east and southern shores to reach Selden Pass. Dont recall the details, but felt like walking around was easier on that excursion.

Here's a picture of Marie lake (north of Seldon pass) in mid-August 2013 which was a very low snow year. Looks like there's about a 6-10 foot gap. You might get your feet wet.

Curious why you're interested in crossing at the isthmus? Because it's there?
