I'm taking some friends on a trip through Yosemite (they have never been) and am doing the trip over vogelsang to half dome and out Yosemite Valley. I am not interested in camping near the H.S camps and especially not little Yose valley. I am was planning on camping at Vogelsang area, Echo creek area and then at Sunrise Creek. We would hit Half Dome and then head out to the valley. Any suggestions to this trip or alternate camping areas to get more solitude?

Near Vogesang, you could look at Bernice Lake ( lovely!) or Emeric (also nice, but the better campsites are on the far side of the lake).

We have a report on a setion of this trip on our website--we started from Nelson Lake and went cross-country to Tuolumne Pass, then down Lewis and up Fletcher Creeks. You are wise to avoid the more popularted areas. Sunrise Creek has fewer people (and bears) than LYV~!

Would stay at Bernice Lake, and at Echo Valley go up to the High Trail and stay
along the bench across from Cascade Cliffs, this area has an alpine feel to it. Then on
to the Sunrise/JMT Trail and camp near the Sunrise/Clouds Rest Junction (less people
and easy access to either the Clouds Rest trail or Half Dome Trail). If you have not
been up Clouds Rest, than you've been missing out on one of the best views in the park.
Half Domes views are blocked to the north by the 1091 feet higher Cloud Rest.

Thanks for all the replies. Just what I needed, some small details and expertise to make this trip feel slightly more back countryish.
