Thanks for the report and great photos. Do you have a recommendation for campsites at or near Ediza?

Is Rainbow Falls always pretty impressive like that? I didn't even consider hiking to it on a trip I have planned for the Ansel Adams Wilderness the beginning of next month since I figured it would be small in August like the falls in Yosemite.mcphersonm80 wrote:Very clear. Some shots from the area about a week ago:

If there a lot of people at the lake than next to the creek before reaching Ediza isEbin wrote:

That looks similar to what we saw in late August in a slightly (but not much) wetter year (2008). The Middle Fork San Joaquin has a large high altitude drainage area above that point and flows well all year round (more like Vernal Falls than Yosemite Falls, though not quite as extensive). Definitely worth a side trip (and going down to the base of the falls) if you've not been there before. On a hot summer day plenty of people will be swimming in the pool at the base of the falls, but you'll get wet just from the spray as well.mbear wrote:Is Rainbow Falls always pretty impressive like that? Thanks Maverick. We're planning a day hike up to Iceberg and Cecile from there of course. What about Nydiver Lakes? Can you hike up there from the southwest side of Ediza, or is better to go up from off the Shadow Creek trail before Ediza?maverick wrote:If there a lot of people at the lake than next to the creek before reaching Ediza isEbin wrote:

a good spot.
Also on the southern side of the lake there are several spots near the creek that
overlooks Ediza and make for a great sunrise perch. http://www.highsierratopix.com/high-sie ... marker.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
