Of all the beautiful lakes in the Sierra it might be the least visited.

These are really cool pics of a super remote lake that isn´t all rock and water. To me those lakes ultra high
arn´t pretty. South guard is just one of hundreds of these kinds of lakes. The lake to the edge of forever is to me a beautiful lake.

Just stumbled upon this thread. I had the chance to camp there in maybe 2008 (?) and take some morning shots. I promise I'm not trying to sell anything, but I thought I'd share the shots:

I had been on a longer trip, but was behind schedule and had to turn back at that point. I thought there might be a good angle from the lake, so I made my way down there and camped for the night on the south end of the lake. Wonderful hidden gem, it made the trip worth it.

HI OSB,

Welcome to HST! Thanks for the photo's, very nice, hopefully you will share a TR about that adventure with us. :)

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I have always looked at North Guard Lake on the map.... and never been able to visit. I suspect this is not seen often... ditto for the Cross Lake just west.

North Guard lake is indeed a beautiful place and it is indeed off the beaten track, although not too far as the crow flies from a trailhead. In spite of what appears to be really good spawning habitat it appears to be fishless. I suspect that probably cuts down on what would be low visitation even if it had fish. I too have wondered about Cross but haven't been there. I visited North Guard as part of a fairly long day that began with me moving my pack from South Guard L. to the Sphinxes, then day tripping to North Guard. There is something about doing a solo hike when you descend a long way knowing that you'll have to come back up. It really messed with my head during the descent. Coming back over the top was not as tiring as I thought it might be and I still had time to make up for my fishless day at the Sphinxes.
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know if this "qualifies" but I found a beautiful little unnamed lake when hiking to Sky Meadows, then climbing up towards the crag. I named it Elf Lake (it is very green and quite small). It is shown towards the end of this short video:
