After reading and seeing all of this, I believe my Millys foot choice was the safest (therefore the best from my point of view) way over, especially because I was solo. Also, the lake on the North side of the pass yielded dinner, despite how cold (glacial fed) it was in August. I really wish I had taken a camera. I too lowered my pack down with nylon cord at the steepest (upper) part.
