Current Conditions for Snow Tongue on the SHR

Post by mcgloner »

Has anyone been over Snow Tongue Pass this year on the SHR? I will be attempting to enter Humphreys Basin via Snow Tongue early next week and wanted to know the conditions. Thanks!

mcgloner,
This is only second hand, but a father-son duo I ran into about 3 weeks ago were doing the SHR on the segment starting in Dusy. They had no problem on Snow Tongue and claimed that they'd mostly been able to stay on rocks which probably was preferable, as they only had lightweight boots and poles. Still, I was a bit surprised considering how much snow was left. If it's any consolation, I went over Cox col the same time they did, and they felt Cox was more of a challenge (than ST), but that was mostly due to endless, slippery snow cups on Cox.
