High Sierra Topix

This is a follow up to a very brief post in July commenting on the snow levels encountered during a 9 night trip starting June 23rd. This post has a photo link that lets the pictures say what words cannot. Briefly: we headed in over Bishop Pass and had the Black Divide as a target. However, because of the absence of any sign of exposed ground above 10,000 ft (when we studied the Black Divide from lower Dusy Basin), we instead went over Muir Pass and wandered around in upper Evolution Basin/McGee Basin. It is a very different world when nearly all the lakes are frozen and the snow cover easily exceeds 50%. Basically, this was winter camping in the summer. And frankly, it beats the dickens out of the winter camping I've done. At the same time, from the posts folks (like, greg and silverfox) have submitted of these areas as summer progressed, the melt was pretty gradual. The dozen or so shots here provide some basis for comparison:
