Drove up to Tahoe on the spur of the moment after spending 10 days in Yosemite/Inyo. Will be here tomorrow only before flying home.

Any ideas on a shortish (under 8) loop trail for a dayhike? We are staying in South Lake Tahoe and have rental car.

It's not a full loop, but you can head out of Glen Alpine (Fallen Leaf Lake) and hike to Gilmore, then over to Susie (possibly side visit to Half Moon and Alta Morris), then Heather, and then head cross-country down to Grass and then back to the trailhead. Lots of lakes, good fishing if you're into that, but probably also a decent amount of people.

You can make a longer loop by going Glen Alpine-Susie-Heather-Aloha-PCT-Triangle/Lost-down the Tamarack trail back to Glen Alpine. I've heard that the Tamarack trail is pretty steep and may not be doable right now with the spring snowmelt possibly turning the trail into a swift creek.

Lots of other nice hikes in Desolation, but relatively few options for loops in the 5-10 mi range.
