Thanks again. I wonder if that guy was backpacking in jeans.
I also saw a post from a couple of days ago on the WPMB saying that they got over Kearsarge just using hiking poles, without difficulty.

jeans = my preferred backpacking pants. Durable, comfortable, protect against scrapes and scratches. Always wear 'em, even when snow camping in the spring.
