Boundary Lakes

I am tentatively planning a backpack trip from Kibbie Ridge to Boundary Lakes for the July 4th weekend. Does anyone have any information on the snow conditions...whether there are patches of snow of a solid layer?

I was up to Kibbie Ridge just a few days ago. Here is a quote from an email to a friend:
Shingle Springs: "The last mile of road was really bad, but cars did get there. It was hot. The trail was good to the junction. It was different going up Kibbie Ridge. At first it was only faint trail and dead-falls, but the problem was that there was a burn since the last time I/we were there, and that, combined with a very harsh winter, by the time we got past Lookout Point, the trail was totally obliterated by dead-fall and burn debris. To make matters worse, we were starting to see huge patches of snow, and it was only 6800 feet."
The snow is really going fast, but the trail does go near 8000 feet, so I expect snow above 7200 feet for at least another week or so. The real problem is the extremely poor condition of the trail. Think of it as a cross-country trip through lots of downed debris. There were long sections where you could not even see the trail. But hey, you are on a ridge and if you have a compass...
One tip: just before Observation Point you come to a place where the trail disappears into a swampy area. Instead, go left and go around the swamp and a wet crossing. You will have to hop two small streams to get back on the trail...such as it is....
