In August of 2009 I did a short three day trip in the Dinkey Lakes Area.

After a steep, rough drive to the trailhead, we were on our way. Here is an easy crossing early on.

Setting a quick pace, we sped along to Second Dinkey lake, eager to spend some quality time fishing. However, after a few hours and not a single bite, we started to speculate that this lake might have been netted. Discourage, we planned to move camp to Island lake the following morning.

A beautiful sunset gave way to darkness and I enjoyed some of the most spectacular stars i had ever witnessed.

After a hasty breakfast of instant oatmeal we headed up to island lake.

We arrived shortly after to Island lake, wow was it beautiful.

Soon enough we got down to fishing, and in comparison to the previous day, it was like night and day. Almost right off the bat we were hooking undersize rainbows, and eventually landed a whopper. This was (and still is) the biggest fish I have ever seen in the Backcountry.

Falling asleep that night, my dreams were laiden with images of alpenglow:

The following morning we got an early start and wandered back to the trailhead at a leisurely pace, but not before admiring the glass like surface of the beautiful Island Lake.
