Why No Trip Reports or Back Country Condition Updates

Post by maverick »

Hello fellow HST members,

Noticed several mosquito updates as of late by new members, please take the time
to write up a trip report also, or at least write up a back country conditions update
which will help your fellow members to have something to gage the current
conditions by, and also to help them prepare for upcoming trips.
Any little information, is better than no information, and can be quite useful to your
fellow backpackers/hikers. Thanks

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I second the motion.

I also agree. I have been scouring everywhere for information. I intend to start over Kibbie Ridge this weekend. I expect snow on the ridge (hopefully just Sierra Cement), but not in the Boundary Lakes area, or at least not more than 70-80 percent coverage. I was thinking about the Vernon Lake loop (again), but I would like to do something else if it is available. Worse case, we head for the southern Sierra where I KNOW it will be clear, but that is last resort.
When I get back, for sure I will post something. Keep those current conditions reports coming! Please.  [-o<

Hi Q

First, thank you for posting you Back Country Condition Update in the correct format, and
second, looking forward to a great TR!
If everyone starts loading up to the "Back Country Condition Update", we can
have a very unique, quick reference guide, which will give HST members a chance to be
able to get up to date (or close to it) info on a lot of places in the Sierra which will come
in handy when planning our trips!

I can tell you why I haven't posted any backcountry condition updates: because I haven't gone up to the Sierra. And the reason I haven't gone up to the Sierra is because everyone else's backcountry condition updates made it clear to me I really don't want to attempt anything this early this year. ;)

But I promise I'll post something when I go in mid-July, or maybe mid-August.

No biggie Tom, was mainly directing this towards our new members since some have
written mosquito updates to places like Paradise Valley for example, but no Conditions
Update or Trip Report has been posted, yet.

These are your treks? You are either incredibly skilled or incredibly lucky. :smirk: I only say that with great envy. You have done some stuff I have only thought of. (And I like following old road too.) OK, you have done enough Yosemite: you need to branch out. You need to get out to the south of Yosemite where the real backpacking and cross-country trekking lives. When you do it you will know what I mean. Happy trails!

Wow. Nice backhanded compliment. Not sure why that was required.
(maybe you didn't mean it that way... but it sounded that way to me)
It's all good and most of my trips include a large amount of cross country.
There's a few from SEKI in there.

It's a passion... what can I say. Been doing it a long time.

(btw ... ignore the Old Road Stuff... that was for someone that asked about
the Old Roads... some are from various trips over the years)
(The only road I enjoy walking on is Tioga in winter... and Old Big Oak Flat Road/rockslides)
