When I did the JMT, we started at Glacier Point (we all had done the Falls stairs too many times already), and we resupplied at Toulumne Meadows, Mammoth and the MTR. It was nice to be able to carry so little food. But once we reached MTR, we picked up two weeks worth of food. We were barely able to get our packs off the ground.
Well, things are different now, and gear and food much lighter.

Doyle,

I'm not the owner of VVR - that would be Jim Clement. I'm the webmaster - I've been maintaining the site since Jim bought VVR from Butch's widow.

VVR has been open now for about a week; MTR is still buried in snow - the melt is only just now beginning.

The bulge at Florence dam actually turned out to be rather cosmetic - that is, it was apparently caused by some frozen pipes that run through the dam - no structural damage to speak of from what I hear.

I remember Butch well. Once I was writing him a check, and I was getting out some I.D., and Butch said, "Never mind that. Flakes don't come up here. "
Great place, VVR.

Whoa. Seeing flooding like that makes me look forward to what sort of crazy sights I may see in the Sierra this summer.

A coupla years ago we were thinking about taking the boat to the end of Edison, but it was too low. Has the lake level recovered?

From VVR:
"Lake Level FULL
Lake level is 6' below TOP OF DAM, projected to hit top of dam (spill level) by August 1st."

OK, thanks.
We've been on dial-up for years (not my choice) so there's a lot of places I just couldn't go. Finally got satellite, which is sort of semi-broadband, a week ago. I googled 'lake edison level' and the VVR website looked like the best result. The website partially loaded, then my browser spun & spun with no further results.

I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu, but that shouldn't have made any dif. Didn't know if the website was down, or someone loaded 50MB of data on the first page, or what...
