Hello All,
Well, the trip plans are coming along quite well and the excitement continues to build. We have pretty much all of our gear and have started the kids (and us!) on training hikes. I hate to have you all respond to this topic again, but please take a moment if you have some info that can help us. We are ready to lock in on the game plan for a re-supply over or near Kearsage Pass. I need to know names of outfitters who have been known to provide this service. I also recall reading that we can hike to their base camp and pick up the box. We decided to take 2 bear cannisters and 1-2 Ursacks for our family of five. 1 Ursack is for garbage generated by both families (9 people) and the other is for "foods that will be edible anyway if reduced to powder form". Lastly, we decided to use a tent/tarp made by Dan Cooke (voyageur BW) called the Lean 3. Tent and poles is 8# - less if a ridgline is used instead of some of the poles and sleeps five adults. Am wondering about what kind of material (lighweight) we can put on the ground. Let me know if you have any experience with this particular tarp/tent.
Thanks, Lisa

Hi Lisa,

A couple years ago I used packers out of Bishop to bring in a re-supply for me. My son was to have joined me on that trip, so I had arranged to have a re-supply brought in for the two of us; he ended up exiting the trail early on, so I had waaaayyyy too much food.... I ended up giving half of it away.

I had used Berners Packers (or something like that) out of Bishop. they met me at the Charlotte Lake Ranger Station (the Ranger there was so nice - an older man who was SOOO happy when I gave him home-made cookies :) ) .

The Packers were really helpful, and took all my trash (as well as several other people's trash), but they were really spendy... $500.00 for their service . With 9 people, you'll be needing a lot more than I did, so I'd not be surprised if it was more.

Lisa, when did you say you were going to be on the trail? I think you said you are traveling north to south?

The local packer is Brian Berner.

His train doesn't always run on time, but he's a nice guy.

I wonder if that was me with the chocolate chip cookies -- though "older" sure can't be me. Must have been that Dave Gordon guy. Truly ancient for a ranger... .

Ya know, George... I did catch a glimpse of that ranger ironing his uniform and there was an amazing resemblance to your picture! :D
