Seeking that perfect meadow

Post by maverick »

I am seeking the perfect fall meadow, where the grass has turned golden, a creek
runs through it, and a nice mountain scenery in the back ground.
The kind that made you stop in your tracks.
The stream should be wide enough to reflect the alpine glow from the mountains at
sunrise or sunset.
Please name one place that comes closest to this description, preferably in a
back-country location.
I would be interested what HST members come up with.
Mine would be Gallats Lake/Meadow area south of Colby Pass, what's yours?

This one's on the way to Portal Lake. I think. It's from 1989. It's not golden, but then, It wasn't yet fall.

Well, this isn't exactly back-country, but still Sierra. View from our cabin deck in Hermit Valley, 7,000 ft contour on Hwy. 4, in 2008.

That's what remains of the N. Fk. Mokelumne in the foreground.

N. end of Big Wet, near the big rock, with whaleback in the background. No creek reflection and this has to be pretty late in the season to get the sedges golden.

Not exactly a maedow but the huge grass bench n. of Evelyn lake with Mt. Conness in the background is pretty cool.

Then there is McClure with the Hermit when looking toward the S.

Not quite backcountry but Tuolumne Meadows with the perfect angle of Unicorn.

Geeze Maverick I could go on and on.

Gallet's and Big Wet would be darn close to the top of the list for me as well. Not entirely a meadow, but Bighorn Plateau and areas a bit east have to be mentioned.

This was taken a fair ways up the Lyell Fork. It would be an easy couple mile hike. From this angle you don't get the reflection but I'm sure that if you were closer and aimed south you could get the mountains and glacier.

No creek running through it, but the area right before little 5 was definitely a favorite of mine
