Trail/Snow/Mosquito conditions Agnew--1000 Island--Donahue

Post by kpeter »

We are set to begin our Agnew Meadows to Tuolumne Meadows trip on Monday, July 26. Has anyone on these forums already been through? What were the conditions, and what do you expect them to be in a week?

Many thanks for any advice you can offer!

Just got back yesterday from hiking Tuolumne to Andrews and the skeetrz were bad at 1000 Isle. We camped high up the west side along the creek and had far less problems with them. There was a lightening strike on the west slope sometime last week and there is a very small smoldering fire that the forest service is managing. We were camped about 300yds below it and didn't even know it was there until the fire crews came up each day and stirred it creating a little smoke. They asked us to let anyone we saw know they were aware of it and not to worry. They said we were fine where we were camped and I think they were having to work to keep it going to clear the area of old wood. The trail was clear between Andrews and 1000 Isle except a few small patches of snow.
