McGee Canyon

Just reserved permits for a 2-nighter up McGee Canyon. Has anyone been up that way yet this year? Seems to be one of the few areas that would be free of snow (for the most part, expecting some at the lakes) right now. I live in Roseville and was originally planning a trip into Desolation Wilderness since its closer but the trails are still 50% snow on the west side, I prefer the Eastern Sierra's anyway. McGee Canyon seems to be a pretty underrated trail, even the immediate views of Mt Baldwin show some amazing geology. I'm expecting wildflowers at least in the initial part of the trail.

I'll be bringing lots of deet, and I'll report back with a TR w/pics and on the skeeters. I expect them to be a nuisance.

Hi..
I live in Long Valley, just a mile north of the road into McGee. The lower part of the canyon is fine. I imagine that it will be free of snow at least as far as 9,000 feet. I was up there at the trailhead about two weeks ago and there were lots of people doing day hikes and no snow on the trail at all.
Naturally the north facing parts of the canyon will be a little different.
