High Sierra Wildflowers question

Hey everyone!

I'm taking a short trip up to the Palisades area near Big Pine. I'm curious if there will be any wildflowers this early in the season, and if not, when the general peak would be expected. The trailhead is at 8,000 feet, and I plan on camping around 10,000 feet, to give you a rough idea of the elevations that I will be at. The main reason why I ask is that I'm debating whether there is any point in lugging my new Macro lens with me. Thanks for any feedback!

Brian

Hi Brian

Welcome to HST.
It will be to early right now, I would wait till mid or the later part of July or even early
August, especially at 10000 ft and above with the higher than normal snow fall this year.
By the way which macro are you planning to use?

I have the 100mm IS Canon 2.8. It is awesome, and I would love to get some high sierra flowers with it.

Unfortunately, my schedule is kind of strict, and I'm tied to the dates that I have. I'm looking at a 3 day trip this weekend, a 4 day trip around July 20th, a 3 day trip around August 20th, and a Labor Day weekend trip. All of these trips will be in the eastern sierra around the same elevation I mentioned in the first post (8-11,000 feet-ish).

I would also love any recommendations that people might have for great high sierra wildflower locations(along with the ideal part of the season to see them). I've been eyeing some Mcgee Creek pictures shot recently that look incredible.

High Trail in the Ansel Adams Wilderness
Western end of 1000 Is Lake in Ansel Adams
Davis Lake in Ansel Adams
Hutchinson Meadow in Inyo NF
Seavey Pass area in Northern Yosemite
Meadow near Blackcap Basin in Sierra NF
Just to name a very few.
Timing wise mid to late July or even early August in some places.

Awesome, thanks Mav. I am tentatively planning on going to the 1000 Island Lake region for my late July trip, so that would probably work out pretty well.
