We are starting out of Reds Meadow (towards Tuolumne). What trail(s) would give us the best experience with the Devil's Postpile.

If I remember correctly, Devil's Post Pile is on the road to Red's Meadow, not on the JMT from Red's to Tuolumne. Ask when you get to Red's. There's a short loop trail that goes to the top of the postpile and is worth it, IMO.

From Mammoth, if the road down is even operating yet due to snow/ blow-downs, there is a second shuttle, a free bus that winds its way all around the San Joaquin loop down there - Red's Meadows - Devil's Postpile - Agnew Meadows. This runs continuously...daytime. This is not the same bus as the $7 Minaret Summit, "pay to go down" bus. To see the Postpile - take the bus...Hot bath? - take a bus...Rainbow Falls...bus and walk a mile.
But, when ready to hike, start out from Agnew (closer and bus friendly) and proceed from there...I like the River Trail up and the High Trail coming down...YMMV.

FYI, Once down below, there are 3 trails up to 1000 Island front ways, and a few (Staircase) up the back. Of these front trails, that first, 6-mile portion, starting out of Red's is a dusty drag of a trail - avoid if possible...Agnew trailhead -(free bus first...same destination) better.
