Royce-Merriam Saddle Conditions

Has anyone had a recent looksey at the snow field on the east side of the Royce-Merriam saddle? Am thinking of a BP trip 08/6-9 to that area and would hump ax and crampons up over Pine Creek Pass if not necessary. THANX!
