From the Visalia Times-Delta
New fire restrictions were imposed today at Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks due to dry conditions.

Use of wood and wood or charcoal barbecue fires isn’t allowed in most of the parks below 6,000-foot elevations except in designated campgrounds. The restrictions also are in effect at the Ash Mountain and Hospital Rock picnic areas as well as back county hiking areas.

Gas or propane stoves may be used at all elevations.

Smoking also isn’t allowed below 6,000 feet except in developed areas, campgrounds, inside vehicles and in buildings where smoking is permitted.

For more information about the fire risk in national parks, go online to http://www.nps.gov/seki" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and click on “Fire in the Parks” under Quicklinks.
