Sawtooth Ridge Loop

Post by Hiker Steve »

I am considering a 3 day trip around Sawtooth Ridge. Day 1 destination at Crown Lake. Day 2 below Burro Pass. Day 3 climb of Matterhorn then descend to Twin Lakes. Anyone done this? How is the water supply on Day 2? Anything tricky on Day 3?

The class 2 route up Matterhorn from Burro Pass is an easy ascent up a scree gully
and Horse Creek Pass is even easier with a small talus field to descend on its
eastern side.
You can get water at the small ponds under Finger Peaks and/or Piute Creek.
You can also go up Little Slide Canyon, go over Ice Lake Pass, and descend
through the meadows and benches to the trail about 1 mile away from Burro Pass.
This is a fun alternate if you prefer not to do the trail version up to Crown Lake.

Thanks Maverick. I found some pics of the canyon south of the ridge and it looks quite nice.
