Fire Below Farewell Gap

Dang, it was so wet in the Sierras two weeks ago, and now the webcam that looks at Farewell gap shows a nice smoke smudge. It looks too low to be a lightning fire, so I'm guessing bipeds may have played a role. Anyway, the air quality looks horrible out there, so I'd strongly discourage anyone from heading in that direction till it rains.

Close call ! A few days ago I made tentative plans for this Saturday working some familiar places betwen Mono and McGee by making the long drive to the Eastern Sierra. But then last night after noting weather would be cloudless totally sunny, warm, thus somewhat unremarkable for larger landscapes, decided to instead go to plan B at Mineral King that is not nearly as far and do more work on wildflower closeups. In either case I wasn't too excited because I've been working the field heavily on weekends the last 4 months. So was packed up and planning to leave from work this afternoon. However 5 minutes before my work day's end, a group meeting was called and my boss volunteered me to help out on Saturday. That was fine with me. As someone with an otherwise indepent roll, a rare chance to show I can be counted on to step up occasionally working out of my roll to help the group. Since T-storms were active the previous couple days, I'd expect the fire is lightning caused.
