NWS Snow cover Mapping

Does anyone ever use the snow cover mapping? The user interface is rather cumbersome, but it seems like there is some good data there, but I have some things that aren't clear to me.

On this page : http://www.nohrsc.nws.gov/interactive/h ... 67&y=37.24 is the data for Piute Pass, apparently there is a NWS station there or something. So it looks like there is no snow cover at Piute Pass (though I am sure there will be some, at least in patches, especially where there is shade).

Is there anything else I should be looking at here? Is there a way to get a snow cover forecast the same way you can get a region forecast on the main NWS page by clicking on the google-maps embedded display?

Secondly, I click the "More information on station..." link, and it takes me to this page: http://www.nohrsc.nws.gov/interactive/h ... 67&y=37.24

When I get there, I see more data, primarily, I see a Satellite photo, that appears to show most snow-cover gone, but summit lake looks to be partly iced over (or is that just glare?).

But in the data header at the top of the screen, it shows updated "2008-10-15", now I am wondering, does that mean that's when the sat image is from, or just when this page was last modified? (excluding forecast changes)

It seems like there is some really great data here, and more to look at on the site, but wading through it is a major challenge.

Any light anyone can shed? Have you used these resources before? How accurate did you find them?

Ray,

Not sure if you've clicked through to find these two pages on that site, but might be useful?

http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/earth/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/nsa/index.ht ... 23&units=e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers,
Eric
