Emigrant trip report...

Post by balzaccom »

Just a quick note about our trip. lots of snow above 8,000 feet, and most of the trails had some serious water issues... WE started at Crabtree trailhead, as the FS told us that Gianelli was still under a lot of snow. SO we changed trips a bit and headed to Camp, Bear, and Granite Lakes. Ended up camping at the cascades above Bear Lake...and day hiking into Granite Lake, which was snowbound and frozen over.

But what wonderful country. And after three days in the back country, the three of us could count a total of two (2) ! mosquito bites. yeah, there were a few in evidence...but nothing to worry about.

Here's a link to the photos. Bear Lake is about 7700 ft, Granite Lake is over 8500 ft.

Thanks for the report Balz. I plan on hitting granite this year on my way in this summer. Glad you had fun.

Nice pics! That is pretty country in there. Got chased out of Granite Lake by a Labor Day weekend snowstorm in 2000...ah, memories...
