Can you identify this Yosemite photo?

Post by Hikin Mike »

The title is wrong on this photo. Any ideas what this is? This isn't my photo, but I promissed the person who took it that I'd try to ID it for him.

Here's the photo:

Here's the details:
I know it was on the east side...but closer to the center of Tioga pass....between thr road and thre ridge that makes up the wall of Yosemite valley (just on the back side) Their was a HUGE expanse of granite I was shooting from....I looked on a map...and it seemed to be the right place...but who knows....I could have been quite incorrect.

I don't have my topo maps with me right now, so I'm guessing a bit here, but, I'm pretty sure what we're looking at is a view from southward from near 120 (Tioga Pass road) east of Tenaya Lake. I forgot the name of the dome (because I don't have the map in front of me). Medlicott? A bit to the right and off the photo would be the intermittent Cathedral falls, outlet to Lower Cathedral Lake. I'd guess that the granite ridge in the foreground, if followed further west would rise into Pywiack Dome.
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looking at my TOPO software, I think you're right.
