Was thinking about heading up Bishop way to check out the fall colors, does anyone have any info on how things are looking so far this year? Thanks.

Colors are about at peak now 9,000-10,000+'
It was a little warmer than average this September in the Eastern Sierra.
The best time of the year...IMO ;)

Still a little too early in my opinion. Give it another week or 2. Here's a link to a website that the SacBee used to use for it's fall color updates. Basically it's a website where photographer who travel around looking for fall colors post what they've found.. Hope this helps.

I was just hiking around sabrina basin on sept 20th and the leaves were mostly a mix of green/yellow.

Leaves are peaking between 9 and 10k feet around the June Lake area.
Here's a picture from this weekend around the Gem Lake area:

Here's a picture around South Lake on the 20th-21st:

And here's a picture near the hiker parking for the Sabrina Basin on the 14th:

Sabrina Basin is terrific -- at or nearly at peak. The difference from Saturday to Monday (I just did a 3 day backpack) was remarkable.

Right on, quentinc! I have noticed a day or two makes a huge difference. Once the colors peak, they seem to degrade quickly. Getting the right "day" is what it is all about.

BTW...I noticed a little dusting of snow yesterday on Bloody Mountain. The orange, gold, yellow trees and snow was especially picturesque! We might be getting a little more today.

Get out there!
