East Hiker,
As you will be coming out of Reno, that time of season is best to head down 395 south toward Mammoth Lakes (2 hour drive) and Mono Lake. It's really pretty on the back side of the Sierras and Mono Lake region is fun to explore. You could do Lundy Lake (just north west of Mono) for some good day hiking.
You might want to consider the Tahoe Rim Trail later in the season, mid to late June, depending on the snow pack (this year it was a dry spring so the snow melted sooner). It is broken into segments that you can take depending on the time you have. There's even a nice book, Tahoe Rim Trail by Hauserman (I think) which gives great descriptions of the various sections and what to expect. The part that heads through the Desolation Wilderness is also part oft he PCT I believe.
Enjoy the Sierras. come back when there is some snow too for a whole different experience.
