Lovely spring dayhike on the North Fork Kaweah

My friend Lisa and I headed up through Three Rivers and took the North Fork Drive. We went ten miles to the end of the road and hiked the North Fork trail next to the North Fork Kaweah River. It was a fairly tame hike on what once was the road up to Sequoia Park before they built General's Highway, but it was beautiful. Perfect scenery and weather for a low elevation spring hike!

Looks like a great hike! I have a friend whose grandparents were part of the Kaweah Colony--very interesting history there.

really nice scenery. i'm wonderng about the fishing ;-) i drove up that road a few years ago and checked out paradise and cherry falls i think, before having to head back to visalia (i was working at the time and had to get back to the office).

Eric, there were a couple of side roads closed to the public. I don't know which of them went to the areas you are interested in, because BLM doesn't seem to have any online maps I can find. The North Fork and Colony Mill Road trails were both open. Both of these trails are in the National Park, although the trailhead parking is just outside the park. The Yucca Flat parking area was open. If you are allowed to fish inside the Park, you could walk up the North Fork trail for river access. It is a steep climb down to the river in most spots, but there were a few places where it was possible.
