As we watch all this snow accumulate have you been dreaming
about your first trip to the Sierra.
I won't even ask the usual "if yes" part of the question, just where
will your first trip be to?
Im planning on going to Tehipite Valley in late May or early June.

I was thinking about a nice leisurely trip into Evolution Basin around August or so, but we'll have to see how the winter snows melt off. I'd planned on doing it last year, also, but there was still snow and mud when I planned my summer vacation.

Just about anything right now sounds good. I've been trying to find the time to do a winter trip, but things never seem to come together. I'd like to do a nice long spring ski tour, and the way things are looking this might end up being in July :unibrow:

Although nothing set in stone, this summer I'd really like to try a trip up into Upper Blue Canyon, and perhaps explore the White Divide while I'm at it. Tehipite would also be top on my list - I'd love to spend a few days in down in the valley or even try a trans sierra trip. We'll see what this summer has in store.

I'm not a winter outdoor sports guy, so in winter I'm all about daydreaming with topo maps and some good beer. Yes, I've been daydreaming quite a bit about what my one 4-5 day trip will be for 2008.
My top 4 options (aided by two fine bottles of Green Flash Imperial IPA):
1. Cirque-Apollo-Orchid-Three Island-Gemini-Lower Turret L. plus or minus Pinnacle Creek drainage (Bear Creek-Florence shuttle; easiest option if my limit gets set at 4 days)
2. Tuolumne and vicinity to Quartz Mtn or Red Top: Johnson Pk Lks-Reymann-Nelson-Vogelsang Pass-Bernice-Florence Lks-Florence Pk- (possibly the Harriets)-Edna Lk-Red Pk-Merced Pk-various lakes between there and Quartz Mtn or Red Top.
3. Kid Lakes-Glacier Lakes-Volcanic Lakes
4. (hardest one) Florence to Bonnie L/Turf Lakes-Mt Henry-whole bunch of lakes-San Joaquin-bench along west side of Emerald Pk-Emerald Pk-unnamed lakes north and northeast of Emerald Pk-Florence.

In mid-March I'll be doing a 4-day, 3-night ski to Glacier Pt, not staying at the lodge/snack stand at GP, with the Sierra Club Bay Area Snowcamping Section. I haven't snow camped in 10 years. I'm looking forward to it, albeit nervously, checking and replacing gear, etc., and hoping for clear weather. I usually do an early season trip somewhere low with my friend and fellow Sierra Geezer, Rolland. Besides my 8 REI weekend trips, I (and some more Geezers) will be going back to Darwin Bench and beyond the first of Aug., and I'd like to explore somewhere new on another week-long trip. My husband is set on going up the Hilgard Branch to the Bear Lakes area fishing all the way. I don't fish. Too much Sierra, not enough time. Here's a ink to a fellow Geezer's pictures of Geezers: ... ershm.html
Steve is an aquatint print maker. Check out his art. Lots of Sierra stuff:

The Blue Canyon area is on my list to do this year.
One reason I dont go in the winter is my wife is mad at me
for going in the other three seasons so adding on more is
not an option.
The second is I like being on the move and do not like being tent bound
for 10-12 hrs because of the long nights.
GB your third trip is a nice area which I really like, are you planning
to follow Kid Creek down to the South Fork in the Muro Blanco
and out Paradise?
Senger Creek up to Upper Turret (including Turret Peak)and down to
Middle and Lower is cool as is Apollo Lake area on your first trip.
On trip four did you mean Bonita Lake? Lakes west of Emerald Peak?
Are you referring to the small lakes southwest down to Lake 11335
behind Peter Peak or the lakes on the western side of Goddard like
Lake 10632 and lakes north of Mt. Henry?
If its the lakes north of Henry thats where the area Tom attempted to
reach last year.

I'm still trying to guess what the snow is going to be like, but I don't think I'll be able to get into the high country in late May as I was planning.

My backup plan is to section hike the PCT from the start to Tuolumne Meadows, taking my sweet time in the Sierra and bagging every peak I can before my new job starts. *crosses fingers*
