I just go the the HST and then back-track (about 0.4 miles) on HST to the Mehrten Creek camp. Depending on time you get to the HST, you could also continue to the next HST camp (??Nine Mile- about 2-3 miles farther). Mehrten has quite a few campsites, a few down by the trail, most are up the hillside on the west side of the creek.

You can't start a quota-season HST hike at Wolverton this year. Alta Trail permits specifically do not allow travel on the HST between Sevenmile Hill Trail and Kaweah Gap. You need a HST permit to hike it from either Crescent Meadows or Alta. I'm gonna try to do a pre-quota hike out to Bearpaw from Wolverton next weekend.
