Day Reservations Required To Enter Yosemite 2/8

Post by maverick » Fri Jan 29, 2021 3:49 pm

Yosemite NP:
Beginning February 8, visitors to Yosemite National Park will need a day-use reservation to enter the park. The temporary day-use reservation system will allow the park to manage visitation levels to reduce risks associated with exposure to COVID-19.

Day-use reservations will be required for all users, including annual and senior pass holders. Each reservation is valid for seven days and must be validated the first day of the reservation.

Reservations are available on www.recreation.gov beginning at 8 a.m. Pacific time Monday, Feb. 1. Each day-use reservation is valid for one vehicle and the occupants of that vehicle. For more detailed information, please visit: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/covid19.htm.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

If a "day use" permit is valid for 7 days, does that mean overnight camping is allowed? I suspect not.

Yes looks like it should be fine after 2/1 when the park reopens WD.

If they continue this policy into the summer and thus after Tioga Road reopens, It would be nice if they change the way it worked last year. Forcing everyone who is merely driving through to also get a Yosemite day-use permit is a huge extra hassle. If you have a wilderness permit for Hoover or Inyo, one should not need to also compete for a Yosemite Day Use permit. People should be allowed to show their wilderness permit at the Big Oak Flat entrance and be given a pass-through permit for that particular day.

I think i saw that they were opening up North Pines on February 8th--so that would be the first overnight camping opportunity.

How much does a day-use reservation cost?

This cost is included in the park entrance fee. If you are an existing passholder (e.g., you have a Yosemite Annual Pass, America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Pass, Every Kid Outdoors Annual Pass, Annual Pass for US Military, Access Pass, or Senior Pass), the non-refundable reservation fee is $2.

If you cancel a day-use reservation ($35), you will receive a $33 refund ($2 of the fee is non-refundable).

You need one reservation per vehicle and the reservation is valid for everyone inside the vehicle.

You are correct Balzaccom, I was thinking she meant in the backcountry.

I assume this is just for the upcoming Firefall time period. I bet they remove it soon, maybe starting back up when the park gets crowded in late spring.

after reading the announcement again, I realized they are only opening up the Feb 8-28 dates on Feb 1 ; had mistakenly thought it was for dates 5 months (or whatever) into the future.
Does anyone know what the plan is for the ongoing month-month system ? Thanks !

I wouldn't bother asking about their medium term plans. It's so disorganized that they forgot for almost a week to announce a missing person had been found dead, so that people could quit looking for them.
