Rip Off lodging prices for Death Valley...alternates?

Post by DAVELA »

Was planning on a trip with dad to dv and staying at stovepipe but its $250/night at their motel. Its a motel 6 for gods sake.I hate these corporations who get the concession to rip off the public who own the Park.
Anyway, was thinking of making a road trip out of bishop to beatty along the 6 and 95,maybe up to elko and whatever interesting meanders may exist and then goung to dv from beatty. Were not interested in doing olancha-dv route.
Any suggestions for towns, lodgings, eats from the beatty side of DV?

Pahrump NV has a good selection of hotels, prices are more reasonable IMO. From Pahrump, take Bell Vista Ave, which turns into Bell Vista Road, and then turns into Stateline Road once you enter CA. This will get you to Death Valley Junction. Turn north on 190 to get to the Furnace Creek Visitor's center. I think the drive from Pahrump to Furnace Creek is easier than the drive from Beatty to Furnace Creek since the Beatty route has more winding road and mountains. Maybe Pahrump is too far south for what you're planning?
