MUIR WILDERNESS - Pilot "Pass"?

Post by bgdfcg »

I am looking at the area between French Canyon and Piute Canyon. Has anyone crossed the saddle immediately to the east of Pilot Knob - the route would connect Knob Lake and Alsace Lake. Trying to gauge how difficult. Maybe an alternative to Puppet Pass?

Thanks,

I have not crossed it although I have climbed the South side of the pass to reach the saddle for a summit of Pilot Knob. I also have looked at photos roughly showing the North side. It's certainly doable. Id say likely class 2. Depending on how you cross you might encounter a short class 3 section.
