TR: Bubb’s Creek, Brewer Basin, and Sphinx Lakes

Post by LMBSGV »

This is my second trip report/essay from trips this past summer. (The first report is here)
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19037

This report covers a trip from Road’s End, up Bubb’s Creek to East Lake, up Ouzel Creek and over Brewer Pass to Brewer Basin and Big Brewer Lake, over Sphinx Pass to Sphinx Lakes, and back to Road’s End. As in the other report, the narrative and photos are separate from each other since they are different mediums and intended to stand alone.

Thank you to Maverick, Wandering Daisy, Shawn, and Sierra Hiker for your suggestions and insights.

The narrative is here

The photos are here

I hope they prove interesting should you choose to spend your time. Thanks to all of you who responded to the Red Peak Pass report.

Such a pleasant surprise to find your fine trip report tonight. I had just sat down with a cup of hot tea after everything in the house had quieted down, making for perfect reading time. Your report seems like a nice magazine article, really enjoyable and brought back memories of the area.

It's cool you saw a bear along Sphinx. In my limited high Sierra travels, I've seen more bear along the lower end of Sphinx Creek than anywhere else (putting aside all the dumpster diving bears).

Your photos really captured the grandeur of the place.

Thanks for sharing your trip !

Thanks for the trip report. I especially enjoyed your reflections on "being in the moment" for a couple days in Brewer Basin. From the Brewer Basin at Dawn photo I can see why you were reluctant to leave.
