Meysan Canyon Backpack, Candlelight Pk and Mt Irvine climbs

The plan was to go over LeConte - Mallory Pass and climb some peaks in the back country, and end up on Mt. Whitney. A fairly strenuous undertaking for three days. But an injury precluded that, and we settled for a couple of nice peaks above Meysan Canyon. (description from BobR)

Snowy, keep that knee iced till all the swelling and fluid is gone, mine took about a week. I couldnt figure out why my knee even swelled up while attempting SnowCrown until I saw the small cut and remembered I tapped it with the ice axe, ( I kept thinking I hyperextended it) Doc told me to take Ibuprofen a day before and day of a hike and stress or a small impact may not create swelling.

Looks like you still had a good time.

I'm doing all I can to keep the swelling down. I've been icing it almost every hour, and wearing the knee brace when I'm not icing. Gotta get better by the weekend. ;)

Nice TR and photos SnowNymph, glad you sort of had your repair team on this one. Seems like all my injuries are on my left side, I always bring my knee brace just in case I get a blowout.

thanks Doug & Shawn,

Its always good to have SAR and a nurse with you if you're going to get hurt! :) Doug, I carry my knee brace with me too, just in case.

Knee is still tender (bruised?), but I'm still planning to hike this weekend. An easy day on the mountain is better than staying home. :D

Snowy, see if you can get your hands on an Iceman, its a cooler you put ice and water in that pumps the ice water through a piece that wraps around the injured knee with a knee brace over that.
My neighbor loaned me hers until she ever needs it again. I change the Ice/water once a day and get a full days use out of it, icing several times.
Now I use it after every workout, switching knees, (limitiing any inflamation).

Trekker, I'm really trying to be positive with the knee. It worked with the BP (almost gone), but the knee has that annoying uncomfortableness with pants rubbing against it. :( Too early this morning to tell, it usually feels better after a few hrs. Thanks! :)

Ridgeline, that cooler is probably a good idea, but I don't want to spend that much right now unless the knee becomes a problem. My chiro told me how to make a really cool icepack that stays cold for longer. It works better than the frozen veggies because it doesn't thaw. Those frozen ice paks thaw before the 20 min is up, so its not as good, then it doesn't fully freeze up for the next use.

Homemade ice pak:

1 cup rubbing alcohol
1 cup water
put in a freezer baggie (I double it)
put if freezer and use when needed.

I'm still going tonight even if I just sit by a lake. "The mountains are calling, I must go"
