PCT closure, Belden to Hwy 36

Post by hikerduane »

Due to the Murphy Fire up north here, north of Hwy 70 by Belden, the FS has also closed the PCT from 70 to 36 by Chester. Fire is slowly spreading, but they are having a hard time putting it out. Only 117 acres now according to the local, online rag, Feather River Online News.

The fire area burned repeatedly and is in light fuel. The difficulty is the god-awful terrain. Extremely steep.

The fire is holding right now and does not directly affect the PCT. The closure is precautionary.

I would think all the throughhikers are done with that section by now. So the closure would affect only the piecemeal hikers. In either case, it should reopen in a few days.
