Starting out of Granite Creek CG??

Post by Frank_gonzo50 »

Does anyone have any info about heading north out of Granite Creek past Cora Lakes to possibly Sadler or McClure Lake? Heck, maybe even to Mt Ritter up the river?

Hi Frank,

Welcome to HST! :)

Lakes and trails are snow free to McClure and beyond, the Quartz Mountain Trailhead may be closing soon, due to the fire (Butte Fire) according to SNF, area could see heavy smoke if wind direction changes. The Mammoth Mountain Trailhead is closed, as is Granite Staircase area.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Hiked out from Isberg Pass to Isberg TH on 8/11-8/12. Up high...trail may be faint in places but no issue if enjoy xc travel. No snow. Water crossings are fine...can find rocks to boulder hop... or wade across...depths are between ankle and the knee.
Skeeters are worse the higher you go. If going over pass into Yosemite...I'd give them a 3.5 on scale 1 to 5...pretty bad. Sadler L probably 1 to 2.
McClure Lake looked interesting from up high...a dam and really clear water...but did not go there.
No smoke in this area though visible in distance. Wildflowers are really nice.
Enjoy your trip.

Awesome. Thank you very much. Anyone have suggestions on Topo Maps for the area?
